book of aphorisms by a Pakistani lawyer

America

  1. America is a conformist country, where one accepts what is commonly believed. The non-conformists are either poor or in universities.
  2. When imperialist America sneezes, the world freezes.
  3. The international relations among the countries are unfolding in such domineering and aggressive ways that the ideals of liberty, equality and pursuits of happiness have become self-evident truths for the superior powers of America and Europe only .
  4. Americans believe in the arrogant diplomacy of”like-it-our-way” and “heads I win and tails you loose”.
  5. Absolute military superiority brings complete freedom from accountability. This is now true about the Americans and Russians who share between them the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons of mutual assured destruction.
  6. In the 21st century, the meek shall not inherit the earth, but shall forfeit their Biblical lands of Babylon and Ur in Iraq, awash with oil, to the American usurper and its side-kick, Britain.
  7. America won the Iraqi war, because it ruled the skies. It is yet to be seen whether it can rule the Iraqi people, who have started resisting occupation to achieve freedom and are dubbed terrorists in their own homeland by the foreign occupiers.
  8. Expenditure of one country America on the research, development and manufacture oflethal armaments alone exceeds the total amounts spent on them by rest of the developed world put together. America is a super massive monstrosity in possessing and stockpiling the weapons of small or large scale mass destruction.
  9. America conquered Iraq in March, 2003 on the pretext of liberating its people from the brutal and authoritarian regime of Saddam Hussain. Colonial history is a witness that the strong have always employed the mantras of altruism as a justification for conquest and exploitation of the hapless weak. After the evil of Saddam, comes the curse of President Bush for the unfortunate people of Iraq, who have second largest proven reserves of oil in the world coveted by America.
  10. As a consequence of America acquiring the singular status of a super power and the lone uncontainable imperialist of the 21st century, the age of Orwellian doublethink is now firmly established in international relations, in which the Big Brother is unabashedly adopting the policies of deliberate lies, false imputations and oxymorons in diplomacy as pretexts for conquests, simultaneously attempting to hoodwink the world to believe in such canards to be true to justify its sham moral pronouncements for aggression, such as liberation of the Iraqi people from the oppressive and tyrannical yoke of the dictator Saddam Hussain. Before this ignoble adventure, how many countries were emancipated from their anti-American dictators by a full-fledged invasion? Not a single one!
  11. American democracy is no guarantee for justice. No political system can ensure it in the times of crises. For a minority to be treated justly, sometimes it is made to suffer prejudices in uncertain and fearful times for majority, when their lifestyles and habitual ways are threatened. Nations, whose minorities, such as puritans in England and black, Japanese and Muslims in America sustained injustices with patience without rocking the boat, became eventually just to their minorities, as they were tolerant democracies at the core, though temporarily terrified and derailed.
  12. Americans cracked the nuts of Taliban resistance with the sledgehammers ofB-52 bombers.
  13. America does not need to control territories to be an imperious power. The game is the same old imperial one, but the rules of the game have changed with revolutionary innovations in technology. America is the only super power with high and untouchable super bombers in unchallenged skies capable of throwing 15,000 pounds daisy cutter bombs and with unrivalled sweeping domination over the frontiers of trade, commerce and currency in the world for its imperial rule. Never has such a powerful country with such an extensive reach of super massive force and influence emerged in any age in the history of mankind.
  14. Europeans wear their vices of power with aplomb and without any qualms of conscience because they are adept at the old game of imperialism which they are still playing covertly, but the Americans are uncomfortable and apologetic in wielding their immense power, as they are novices at the imperialistic game and because it has been their historical tradition to act according to contrived moral justifications.
  15. Right is might and means justify the ends between equals. The values of morality, justice and humanity then become relevant and are upheld as the norms of civilized social behaviour in the milieu of the balance of terror, because willfulness or violence will ineluctably result in the mutual assured destruction of the opponents in the event of nuclear holocaust and no party will benefit from the silence of the grave. But between the unequals, where one party has no protection of nuclear umbrella, the super power pre-empts the right of might and his ends justify the means he adopts. The weak must suffer the ignominy of defeat and the pain of subjugation, for it is the perennial law of nature that the strong should hold the sway, as the President Bush has ad nauseam repeated that the Americans “shall prevail.”
  16. America, the military hyper power and the Globo Cop has conquered Iraq, a weakling oil rich country assisting Palestinian liberation campaigns against the Israeli occupier. Three imperialists of the by-gone centuries, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy have joined hands with the colonizer of the 21st century. The march of the Western colonialism continues unabated, since the last five centuries, to perpetuate its unimpeded hegemony and relentless stranglehold on the weak and wretched of the world.
  17. President Bush did not seek approval of the UN Security Council to wage war against Iraq. He is not in the habit of getting such approvals. He did not obtain a clear mandate from the American people to become their President in the controversy of pregnant and dimple chads of the ballot papers. It was the Supreme Court of America which came to his rescue by not sanctioning the transfer of a few hundred contested votes in favour of his opponent Gore, thus enabling President Bush to have the dubious honour of winning the election with paper-thin majority in nearly equal division of votes. His victory was without any moral margin of majority rule, a mere technical win sans moral justification.
  18. In the brave new world of the 21st century, the imperial America, being the only super power in the world, will base its international economic relations on the policy “Either you are with us or against us” in the bid to control the depleting natural resources of the earth, as it successfully defied the international outcry in conquering Iraq unilaterally for oil. Presently, America with 5% per cent population of the world, consumes 20% per cent of the fossil fuels of the earth and its demand for energy keeps on increasing consistently.
  19. The notion of Muslim jihad remained dormant, when it was thrust upon them by the medieval Christians in the crusades instigated by Pope Urban a millennium ago. It was encouraged in its revival by the Americans in the 20th century by arming and supporting the Afghan fundamentalist Mujahedeens and by inviting and training the fanatic Muslims from different countries to fight with American weapons and dollars against the occupying force of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. The guerilla tactics of the Mujahideens in the mountainous regions not only led to the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan after twenty years of occupation, but also initiated, as a catalyst, the final disintegration of the economically exhausted and dissipated Soviet Union, which toppled communist ideology from power and brought an end to the cold war in Europe, saving billions of dollars in the American and European war readiness and opening a way for Europe’s unification to introduce a new chapter in its prosperity and cultural cohesion, and to play second fiddle to America in exploiting economies of the rest of the world for continuous prosperity of the dominant West.
  20. After the demise of Soviet Union and once the purpose was achieved, these very friends of America, who were religious fanatics and now called themselves Taliban – the seekers of truth – were discarded like hot potatoes by the Americans and were opportunely exploited by their mentor Osama Bin Laden and were, at last, mired in the wilderness of their fanaticism driven by the incubus of Jehadi fervour and implementation of the notions of archaic and obsolete laws of sharia, as are presently practiced in Saudi Arabia, the role model of Taliban
  21. Taliban grabbed the opportunity of the vacuum of power in Afghanistan left behind by the Soviet Union and introduced a most militant and virulent version of fundamentalist Islam, wiping out the human rights of the people, confining women in hooded veils with pierced holes and implemented medieval and tribal ways of the desert barren Arabs which were as harsh and inhuman as are now legalized by the Government of Saudi Arabia, whose prisons are cages and death cells, as was recently revealed by the deaths of dozens of the prisoners in a September jail fire in Riyadh in 2003.
  22. Taliban brought their own downfall and exit by biting the American hand that had once fed them and by acquiescing in and extending protection to Al-Qaida, which was responsible for the 11th September barbaric and terrorist destruction of the New York’s twin towers, killing thousands of innocent Americans.
  23. Even after one year of the American occupation of Iraq in March, 2003, they failed to produce the smoking gun of the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, presence of which was so vociferously touted by the Americans and the British, as the moral justification for attack against Iraq without the mandate of the Security Council of United Nations, which was in the process of receiving final report on such weapons from its inspectors in Iraq, whether or not Iraq had any such weapons. All along, President Bush concealed the real reason for occupation which was to capture Iraqi oilfields, containing huge reserves to ameliorate America’s sagging economy with cheap oil, to provide reconstruction contracts, worth billion of dollars to its multinationals and to ensure security for, Israel from threats of retaliations for its atrocities against the Palestinian Muslims, while dropping some crumbs of small local contracts to Iraqi people, for minor works which could not be done or were economically inattractive to be done by the American contractors.
  24. With all its imperious faults in international relations, America is an open society worth emulation in liberal values of democracy.
  25. Americans cannot stay for long in the occupation of Iraq. Besides intense heat and deadly resistance from the freedom fighters, the young soldiers, high on hormones and reared in liberal cultures of the West, will be starved of sex life for months together. Iraq is an orthodox Muslim country, where drink, dance and free mixing of sexes is rigorously prohibited. It is not Japan, Vietnam or Philippines, having relaxed Shinto or Buddhist cultures, where working girls are available aplenty to bed or to marry. Marriage, in any case, is not an option for a Muslim girl, since it is not permissible in Islam for her to marry a non-Muslim. Iraq is a dry and uninviting place for Western youth and creates a prickly problem of morale.
  26. One reason for America having an unrivalled open society is its liberal democracy, tolerance and freedom of expression for its people, inspite of aberrations like President Bush and his coterie of neo-conservatives. It is only in a tolerant democratic society that a condemning research report could be published and announced, nationally and internationally, by independent researchers like the Carnegie Institute that President Bush and his cohorts deliberately lied to the American people about Saddam Hussain possessing weapons of mass destruction, as an advance planning and a stratagem to attack and occupy Iraq.
  27. It is presumptuous to suppose that the lives of humans are more sacrosanct than those of cows, pigs and fowl. But this is what humans think, because they have power to enforce it against these fauna, which are sources of their food. It is the same way the Bush government considers the people and resources of Iraq, Middle East and the prisoners in the Gauntanamo Bay detained and tortured in small cubicles in solitary confinements without due process of fair trials.
  28. What has the condemnable attack of terrorists on the twin towers of New York to do with the American destruction and desecration of Iraq? But this is the way the powerful, whether man or beast, once rudely stirred, strikes in blind rage.
  29. America, as a hyper power, intends to change the world under the pretext of democracy to rule over it with no nonsense of resistance or inflexibility from the dictators. Unlike the erring politicians or the pleasure-seeking princes of the Gulf, replete with oil, who can be easily replaced, an incompliant dictator cannot be removed by diplomatic threats or coup, who has military power and unity behind him. Therefore, the entire military is to be defeated and disarmed to get rid of one dictator, as was the case in respect of Saddam Hussain of Iraq, a lesson timely learnt by the dictator Gaddafi of Libya and the mullah ruling clique of Iran.
  30. Britain will be the only unique empire in the world for having willingly and quietly passed on the role of world conquest and domination to America out of economic exhaustion and is now playing second fiddle to it in foreign affairs. This smooth surrender of position occurred for the historical reasons that both the countries share same language, culture, religion and historical past, as the original and many subsequent immigrants to the new continent were English or Irish. Though affinities and common traditions facilitated the acquiescence in the take over by a succeeding power, it is still singular in history that the transfer took place with the consent of the atrophied British Empire which now participates in sharing economic exploits of the world in oil and trade by America with docility and subservience.
  31. The world needs wisdom for peace. It has become an unreasonable and dangerous place to live in, even without the impending threat of nuclear holocaust. The rule of the hyper power America on the seas and air is now absolute and supreme, after the invention of unreachable B-52 and other far-reaching and fast hitting bombers and huge aircrafts and missile carrier ships, which can hurtle precision-guided massive bombs and missiles tipped with depleted uranium for penetration, causing cancer, in the waves of “shock and awe” attacks and creating craters of the football-size grounds .
  32. The entire nations can now be physically blackmailed and compelled to act at the beck and call of a lone hyper power for its economic prosperity, like slave ants toiling from birth to death for a group of queen ants to feed and clean them. The queen ants exclusively depend on slave ants for survival. They cannot pick up their food to feed themselves with long and oversized teeth. They, however, have genetic advantage of these fang-like frontal teeth to attack and instantly kill the entire colonies of smaller ants and steal their pupas for slave labour, which grow in confinement to work for the big capturing ants. The prospects of the weaker nations are frightening with the drone nations ready to do the dirty work for America in so-called coalition alliances of the countries mostly hailing from Europe.
  33. There is nothing new about such bleak and horrendous future of mankind. Man has enslaved man since Biblical times. Great religions have permitted slavery in one form or another. Greek, Roman, Arab, Turk and Hindu civilizations prospered on slavery and untouchability. It is only recently, one and the three quarter centuries ago, that slavery was banned for the first time in the world by the English, after fully enjoying its benefits extended to the American continent and Caribbean sea, filling these places with black slaves. The new era of one invincible Big brother will bring in a period of death, destruction and conquest of the recalcitrant countries and banishments or Nuremberg-like trials for the defiant and vanquished leaders by the victorious nations. In such an unjust and suffocating world, devised for the comfort and dominance of a hyper power and its lackeys, new groups of terrorists, like Al-Qaida, will mushroom for the discomfort of the Big Brother, who will be forced to live in fear and vigilance with the result that the dream of American founding fathers to create a liberal country to enjoy happiness in care free liberty will be dashed.
  34. It is a recurrent bitter lesson of history that violence breeds violence. There will always be young men and women, among the suppressed and downtrodden people or ideologically inspired youth with false urges of vengeance to give supreme sacrifice of their lives by committing violent suicide for the perceived wrongs. They think that the West supporting the crushing force and relentless tyranny in the Muslim lands, is evil. Nothing is undoable by a government, which can indefinitely confine, chained, tortured, hooded and sexually abused detainees, without the due process of a fair trial, in six by four feet cubicles in Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere against all the cannons of human justice, dignity and mercy. Chances of peace and accord in such a world of extremes do not look bright.
  35. History will speak of a great liberal democracy, in which free people lived, where human rights flourished and were jealously guarded in a fearless ambience of the dignity of man .
  36. All this was true about the Americans, before Guantanamo Bay, where Muslim detainees are im p risoned indefinitely in hardly moveable cubicles in shackles who are sexually and religiously abused and tortured, and who remain without human dignity and without the decency of a fair trial, as a due process of justice. The pretext is that legal privileges of human rights do not extend to non-American combatants held outside the American territory where the writ of American courts does not extend. Whatever legalese is employed, all humans are equal wherever they are and are entitled to the equal treatment of law and fair trial, whoever they may be, whether Christians or Muslims. It is demeaning to think in racial terms, but the stark reality is that all the six hundred and fifty detainees were Muslims, including the nine British and four French nationals. Most of them belonged to Afghanistan and Pakistan, the weak and supplicant countries. The detainees were accused of diabolic and hateful crimes acting beastly in their twisted logic and misled belief; but they were still accused without fair trials. The values of justice and liberty cannot be compromised for any painful or vengeful reasons or legalistic excuses. Norms of civilized humanity can under no guise be sacrificed. Human condition requires us to be just, even if convoluted fanatics deserve no sympathy. There is no room for complacency. Liberty demands constant vigilance, for the unthinkable can happen that the precedent of Guantanamo Bay might be presented, one day, to the Americans by a paranoid person or a group in power. The Bush government presumes that the raison de etre followed by the American Supreme Court of America in the precedent ofDred Scot in the 19th century to treat slaves as property is applicable to the detainees held in detention outside America with the secret smirk on the faces – if then, why not now after 125 years later and if not blacks slaves, why not Asian Muslims?
  37. Hitler had the fiendish grace to openly admit that he was butchering Jews and conquering and cleansing Europe for the racial supremacy of Aryans. Bush and Blair do not even have this diabolic honesty for vanquishing Iraq, an independent and sovereign country. They have occupied Iraq, killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians and incarcerated thousands of its youth for the sole purpose of controlling its oil wealth and for removing Iraqi support to the Palestinian militants fighting Israil with the deceptive and overt declarations repeated ad nauseum on CNN and BBC – which are seen internationally as vehicles of insidious Western propaganda when it came to the attack on Iraq – that the reason for mobilizing American British military might and money was to remove Saddam Husain, a vily dictator, to bring democracy and economic prosperity to the Iraqi people on the wings of B-52 bombers’ destructive power for all Iraq.
  38. They might, as well, invade all the weak countries of the world, where ever dictatorship and kingships prevail, including most of the oil-containing and Israil-opposing 57 Muslim countries, for the sake of imposing what they think is democracy, to earn the eternal gratitude of their so-called suppressed and down-trodden masses. Perhaps, this exercise will be undertaken one by one. There is time enough. Muslim countries are not running away anywhere and they will not transform into acceptable democracies for a century yet. There will be excuses aplenty for the powerful of the West.
  39. Some nation’s history is great, because their ancestors were proficient in causing human suffering and wilderness of destruction for entire populations. The people of Mongolia consider the central Asia’s cruelest butcher Ghengis Khan, a Hitler of olden days, their national hero. So will Bush be remembered as some sort of American icon for his massacring performance in the Muslim Iraq and for his superb spin that the Iraqi conquest was for the good of its people in humiliation, sexsual abuse, torture and captivity.
  40. Post September 11, 2002, security arrangements of the Americans in their homeland are so stringent that they see a terrorist in every Muslim. For once, they are thoroughly scared of Allah.
  41. They came over in Mayflower to beat the hell out of the weaponless natives and formed the country of the brave.
  42. Climate of Iraq is searingly hot. Otherwise, Americans would have settled it for oil and evicted primitive Iraqis, like they did native Indians.
  43. In invading Iraq, America proved to the world that the race was always to the swift in radar invisible bombers and battle to the strong in depleted uranium tipped, bunker-busting and cancer-spreading missiles.
  44. The United Nations is a united nuisance for American preemptive unilateralism.
  45. American hubris of supremacy is a nightmare for universal brotherhood.
  46. The Jewish lobby of Israel in America and elsewhere could not have achieved the heights of 1141.  hatred against Muslims in the West in years of frenzied effort and lavish squandering of money, what the foolish and treacherous Al-Qaida accomplished in the minutes of destruction of the innocent Americans and twin towers on 9/11.
  47. Public opinion in America and Britain is formed and directed by the Israel dominated media and woe to a prominent person’s public career, or one preparing for prominence, who even justly criticizes the fundamentalist Zionists.
  48. For a powerful country. like America, it is easy to invade a weak country like Iraq, but impossible ImII to possess it for its resources, because its people are willing to die for their land.
  49. For gathering intelligence, the American mi itary tortures, lacerates, maims and kills Iraqi and Afghani prisoners in Abu Gharib jail of Baghdad and Guantanamo Bay in Cuban Sea, as a matter of policy sanctioned by the Pentagon in brazen breach of Geneva convention for the treatment of enemy army prisoners and civilians. The Americans have excelled Saddam Hussain in devising novel inhuman ways of torture and humiliation by applying electric shocks to their sensitive parts, sexual abuses, laceration of naked inmates by the ferocious dogs on leashes, piling up of naked bodies in pyramids and overall shattering of dignity of the hapless detainees in myriad different ways. This is the manner in which shinning models of human rights and blessings of democray are being introduced by President Bush in the captive Iraq and Afghanistan.
