book of aphorisms by a Pakistani lawyer

God

  1. Man communes with God, when he feels united with the universe.
  2. God is a sigh of longing for perfection.
  3. Man searches for God to justify his existence.
  4. God is the desire of infinity and eternity in me.
  5. A state of serenity will pervade you, if you conceive God as a force of creation moving in you, as much as you move in him.
  6. lf you attempt to prove existence of God with cold logic, you will land him in contradictions. If you feel him warmly, he is universal love and sense of perfection.
  7. The task of a preacher is easy. He puts the fear of God’s wrath in the heart of an errant person, who believes.
  8. Belief in a deity is communal and regional. One normally believes in the god of the community. one is born in with all the subsidiary baggage and paraphernalia of ritual and behaviour, which culturally identifies and distinguishes that community. Every religion presents for acceptance and compliance, at the peril of punishment, its unique view of god with the somber assertion that the divine image portrayed by it and its mandate for submission and worship alone are true and the rest are misguided abominations. God is thus distributed among the religions, putting mankind in discord, strife and bloodshed, since the beginning of known history .
  9. God is of every religion, by every religion and for every religion. He has created all humankind and belongs to everyone. If everyone were to believe in this ideal and stop owning him exclusively, as is the wont of religions, it will be the beginning of peace and concord in the world. But where will the clerics go? Perhaps, they will re-emerge, as depleted caustic custodians of the world religion.
  10. If a human heart can hold adoration for God bigger than the universe, it can easily contain love for all mankind, living on the speck of a portion in the vast universe called earth in it. The problem is that man fears the power of God and loves him for selfish reasons, but does not find the justification to like fellow humans for self-serving reasons.
  11. God helps those who help themselves, but many cannot help themselves inspite of frantic efforts, when chance, incapacity or adverse circumstances are arrayed against them.
  12. The best way to defend a faith is through dire warnings and frightening curses of damnation to create terror in the hearts of gullibles.
  13. God could have created docile man·to worship him like angels, but that would have been monotonous duplication. He, therefore, gave man free will knowing some would defy him, so that he could punish them. It is more fun to keep everyone enthralled in the anxiety of accountability.
  14. The quest for God is in every heart which wants to know why was the mortal existence created painful, fearful and wasteful in the context of survival of the fittest and species killing and eating species to live. Was there no other benign and dignified way of conceiving creation or is this the best that could be attempted?
  15. The reason for the persistent hatred and strife in the world is the belief of the organized religions that the fo11owers of their conflicting and excluding codes of worship will alone receive beatitude and the rest will be condemned to hell or to other punishments, as infidels. Such a belief detracts from a benign and reasonable god, who is sought to denounce and abandon a vast majority of his creation for no fault of theirs, whom he gave birth in different uncompromising religions .
