book of aphorisms by a Pakistani lawyer

Time

  1. Time mocks youth, beauty and intelligence by setting age, wrinkles and senility and in that order.
  2. If you rest on your past laurels, you become a bore by repeating your old exploits.
  3. Looking at the dark starry sky, the words fail to express the depths of despair and dejection in knowing the insignificance and transience of man, groping for comprehension in the eternity of time and infinity of space.
  4. Reality, however bitter, passes away but the memory of bitterness lingers on to haunt for a long time.
  5. It is a curse of our civilization that so much time is wasted in making a living.
  6. Millenium is a minute in the eons of time and our lives are flashes of lightening in the nightly sky.
  7. We do not pass time. Time passes us.
  8. There is time for everything and everything for a time.
  9. Life is a pensive joy of temporary awareness in the flux of time.

About Rasheed Akhund

In every family, if one is lucky, there appears a figure so marvellously singular, so steeped in wisdom and warmth that he becomes a sort of personal North Star. Rasheed Ahmed Akhund was such a man; measured, principled and enigmatic. A man who, like the best of us, lived not for show but for substance. He belonged to a dwindling class of men who thought deeply, spoke sparingly and forgave quietly.

“A person cannot say that reality is above human comprehension because, being human, he cannot know that there is anything above his comprehension"

- on Philosophy

“lf you attempt to prove existence of God with cold logic, you will land him in contradictions. If you feel him warmly, he is universal love and sense of perfection.”
