Books

  1. Children will readily acquire the habit of reading books, if the parents regularly read to them.
  2. Good books of imagination and ideas leave a lasting impact on the personalities of the readers.
  3. Books provoke understanding of the verities of life by chiseling and shaping thoughts.

  5. After the severe environmental restrictions which must be eventually imposed on the cutting of trees for use of wood as pulp for paper to conserve depleted forests, books will be prohibitively expensive for common use. The educational future of our posterity, for good or bad, will then be moulded by knowledge through screens, be they video, TV, computer or internet. This dependence, which is capable of immense good, is also fraught with the danger of wrong access to mere entertainment, games, undesirable data and control of minds by insidious propaganda without the means of shutting oneself out from it, unless one decides to throw out the baby with the bathtub.
  6. One who loves books is seldom bored or lonely .
  7. The heritage of mankind is in books.
  8. It is a wonder how people live without the inner glow of reading books, which provide inspiration, discovery and sense of destiny. But a great majority of them do, existing like penguins huddled together on icy shores and diving in the holes of frozen sea to catch fish, just for living.
  9. You will have succeeded inspiring your child if she does not read a book as a chore.
  10. The habit of reading good books is a gift of lifetime, which parents must induce in their children.
  11. Goods books teach, but best books inspire.
  12. A good novel should be read not only for entertainment, but to find out why the writer means what she means.
  13. Sensible readers read what interest them, not what is fashionable to read, as best sellers.
  14. Best reading of a good book is marked and selective re-reading.
  15. There are so manygood books and so little time to read.
  16. A bookkeeper is a person who does not return a borrowed book.
  17. Read books to know yourself.

About Rasheed Akhund

In every family, if one is lucky, there appears a figure so marvellously singular, so steeped in wisdom and warmth that he becomes a sort of personal North Star. Rasheed Ahmed Akhund was such a man; measured, principled and enigmatic. A man who, like the best of us, lived not for show but for substance. He belonged to a dwindling class of men who thought deeply, spoke sparingly and forgave quietly.

“A person cannot say that reality is above human comprehension because, being human, he cannot know that there is anything above his comprehension"

- on Philosophy

“lf you attempt to prove existence of God with cold logic, you will land him in contradictions. If you feel him warmly, he is universal love and sense of perfection.”
