book of aphorisms by a Pakistani lawyer
Existence
- Existence as a phenomenon is good or evil, as it affects us. Rising tides lift the boats for fishing, as the raging waves drown them in the same sea .
- In the case of human beings, the struggle for existence has culminated in the acquisition of power to subdue nature.
- Life is a possibility of becoming, through impressions congealed into choices.
- Existence is a priori awareness. It just happens, and compels us to recognize the reality of despair caused by nothingness, so that the meaning could be conjured to enjoy life ruefully in the interregnum.
- Existentialism replaces fear of God with the dread of life. It is like jumping from the fire into the frying pan.
- I give order to the universe. Without me is the chaos.
- We have to create purpose for our lives. The alternative is shattering and nullifying despair.

About Rasheed Akhund
In every family, if one is lucky, there appears a figure so marvellously singular, so steeped in wisdom and warmth that he becomes a sort of personal North Star. Rasheed Ahmed Akhund was such a man; measured, principled and enigmatic. A man who, like the best of us, lived not for show but for substance. He belonged to a dwindling class of men who thought deeply, spoke sparingly and forgave quietly.

- on Philosophy
“lf you attempt to prove existence of God with cold logic, you will land him in contradictions. If you feel him warmly, he is universal love and sense of perfection.”
