book of aphorisms by a Pakistani lawyer
Love
- Sex is a biological necessity for procreation, perpetuation and variation of species. It is a mechanism contrived by nature to compel performance and ensure offspring. It is also an instinct we share with other species. But the love of sexes is a distinct and a human attribute which rises above physical urge and is expressed in sharing contraries of life with mutual care and concern.
- Lasting love is also a union in frequent silences. Love, bedazzling most of the time, is suffocating.
- Love is the unconditional and unmitigated giving of self.
- I love life, but dislike the reasons of its evolutionary emergence through accidental and blind surges of the variations of species and for its lack of purpose. And I am daunted, when I think that I have to create my own meaning and purpose in it.
- In love, one should respect each other’s company for space and individuality, as every person is a symphony unto herself.
- When you are in love, the entire universe is assimilated in the beloved, beyond whom you see nothing.
- You do not search for love. You get it or you don’t.
- Ecstatic joy in love is predicated on the sensitive personalities of the lover and the beloved. Everyone loves, but only a few love without constraint, evoking extreme emotions of sharing pains and pleasures of living with passion and tenderness. Such love adds doubly to the felt confluence of two lives and such lovers find each other rarely.
- The beloved empathises with the lover’s joys, pains and regrets, which heighten elation and lighten sorrow.
- In love, everything that affects the beloved is responded untold.
- In true love, when beauty fades, the soul-mate does not wan in your affections.
- Love makes us vulnerable to pain and joys in ecstasy. Loss of faith in love badly bruises the being .
- Stars appear brighter, flowers become more colourful, birds start singing, people behave and everything looks grander, when you first fall in love and start walking on the clouds.
- Falling in love is a matter of time, opportunity and right chemistry of mutual attraction.
- If it is infatuation, it is not love. In love, you empathize with the beloved, but in crush, you hardly know what you are getting into beyond the obsession for it. It is mostly hormonal, adolescent and ridiculous, yet very real.
- When you fall in love, keep falling in it deeper, not wider.
- First love remains luminescent, long after adolescence.
- The memory of first love in adolescence never fades, though you are happily married ever after, because it made you aware, for the first time, what the ardour of love was.
- Constancy in love is intense and warm affection for the beloved, inspite of the vicissitudes of life. Such persons surf over the hardships with composure, who comfort and console each other.
- Absence inflames love and long separation extinguishes it.
- In loving others, you love yourself.
- Love is inner light of being and increases by sharing it.
- In love, we give everything, which is how we get everything.
- For an egoist, it is not easy to receive and hold on to the gift of love. He has to forget himself and reach out for it. We are all egoists in degrees and will not get real love without really trying for it.
- To be in love is to be.
- Romantic lovers pine to distraction in bitter sweet emotions of unrequited love.

Beauty of the beloved is everywhen and everywhere one happens to look. It is in everything humble or exalted in the universe.

By the cascades of waterfalls,
On the slopes of mountainous snow, In the cool breeze of sandy shores,
I will love you through times unknown. - On this side of eternity, love is awareness of the boundless in cosmos.
